'Stop-the-Clot' Forum Event # 26157
What Can I Expect?
More than 900,000 people in the United States are estimated to develop venous thromboembolism--or clots in the veins--every year, and these numbers are expected to increase as the U.S. population ages. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot that forms, usually in the leg. Such clots can break off and travel through the bloodstream. When the clot travels to a lung and blocks blood flow, the condition is called a Pulmonary Embolism (PE), which can damage the lungs or other organs and cause death. At the "Stop-the-Clot" Forum you will learn the latest information regarding why you might be at risk for blood clots, how they might be prevented, and, if they do occur, how they can be treated.
