As the largest
physician organization in the state, the North
Carolina Medical Society devotes itself to
representing the interests of physicians and
protecting the quality of patient care.
Working for you and your patients…
…NCMS members are on the front lines of advocacy for
North Carolina’s patients and the medical
profession. Member needs are represented at the
General Assembly, with Congress, and with many
regulatory agencies. NCMS advocacy programs have
improved access to quality health care by:
- Protecting Medicaid funding
- Enforcing prompt payment laws and intervening with
third-party payors
- Negotiating fair Workers Comp and Medicare fees
- Advocating public health initiatives
- Defending physicians’ scope of practice from
intrusion by less qualified practitioners
- Lobbying for professional liability reform
- Protecting the physician-patient relationship
Delivering
knowledge and solutions…
…NCMS members receive first-hand news and
information that affects them and their patients.
NCMS communicates with its members through these
programs:
- The Bulletin, the bi-weekly newsletter delivered
by e-mail
- Weekly updates during legislative sessions
- PractEssentials, a practice management education
and resource program
- NCMS Online, the Society’s website
- Health, life, and other insurance products through
the NCMS Employee Benefit Plan
- Member discounts on services such as practice
management programs, collections, magazine
subscription services, and products for personal
use.
Shaping the
medical profession…
…Member-driven focus on issues, programs and
policies, professional involvement, personal
development, and representation in organized
medicine keeps today’s physician closely connected
to the evolving health care environment through:
- The NCMS Foundation Leadership College educates a
select group of members on an annual basis on
personal leadership, communication skills, and
Society operations.
- Representatives to annual House of Delegates shape
policy and participate in the democratic forum of
medicine.
- Membership sections represent the needs of
students, residents, young physicians, international
medical graduates, and physician assistants.
- Leadership opportunities on boards, committees,
membership sections.
