National Stroke Association: Nurse Module G, Preventative Nursing Care for Neurological Deficits

Description:
Every year, stroke strikes approximately 750,000 Americans - killing 160,000 and forever changing the lives of many who survive. The good news is that many strokes can be prevented. There are new treatments that can help stop the brain damage and disability, if you know the symptoms and get immediate attention for your patient. This course is designed to provide an overview of common neurological deficits that may result from stroke, describe nursing strategies that help prevent and/or minimize the impact of those deficits and identify the typical stroke rehabilitation options.

Learning objectives:
- Identify key neurological deficit areas that may result from stroke
- Describe accepted nursing strategies for preventing/minimizing neurological deficits
- Identify general approaches to rehabilitation options after a stroke
